Wiredrawing Lubricant Technology

Presenter: Brad Andrews Michael Bowen

10:00 am - 11:15 am

Fundamentals - General (Combined Track)

The wiredrawing process generates significant heat that affects the lubricant’s physical and chemical properties, which in turn affects the lubricant’s performance. The amount of generated heat is influenced by complex interactions among metal composition, surface preparation, production equipment, and other factors. This presentation reviews basic lubrication principles and typical lubricant compositions for controlling chemical and physical properties. Also included are good maintenance practices for maintaining optimum lubricant performance for both ferrous dry drawing and ferrous and nonferrous wet drawing.
